CONSIDER APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE AGREEMENT FOR CONTRACT SERVICES BETWEEN THE CITY OF CARSON AND WEST COAST ARBORISTS, INC. (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY

Staff is seeking City Council approval to amend a three-year contract with West Coast Arborists, Inc. ("Agreement") to add tree planting for the CalFire Grant Project and remove the retention clause.

II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

Take the following actions:
1. APPROVE Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement for Contract Services by and between the City of Carson and West Coast Arborists, Inc. to increase the contract sum by $127,150.00 to provide Tree Planting services to fulfill CalFire Grant requirements, such that the total cost of the Agreement does not exceed $2,096,914.09.
2. APPROVE the removal of the ten percent (10%) retention requirement from Exhibit "C" Section II of the Contract.
3. AUTHORIZE the Mayor to execute the amendment following approval as to form by the City Attorney.

III. ALTERNATIVES

1. DO NOT APPROVE Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement for Contract Services by and between the City of Carson and West Coast Arborists, Inc. ("WCA") to increase the contract sum by $127,150.00 to provide Tree Planting services to fulfill CalFire Grant requirements, such that the total cost of the Agreement does not exceed $2,096,914.09.
2. DO NOT APPROVE the removal of the ten percent (10%) retention requirement from Exhibit "C" Section II of the Contract.
3. TAKE any other action the City Council deems appropriate, consistent with the requirements of the law.

IV. BACKGROUND

The City is responsible for the care of approximately 21,150 trees located throughout the City in various public parkways, medians, parks, and City facilities.
