CONSIDER AUTHORIZING THE CITY'S KABOOM! GRANT APPLICATION AND ADOPTING RESOLUTION NO. 19-007 ALLOCATING FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $8,500.00 FOR THE REQUIRED CITY MATCH (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY

KaBoom! is a national non-profit organization that develops, manages and coordinates community-build playground construction projects. The City of Carson has successfully partnered with KaBoom! three times, at Friendship Mini Park, Walnut Mini Park and Scott Park. Staff was recently notified that the City is potentially eligible for an approximately $100,000.00 grant to replace the north playground and surface material at Stevenson Park. The grant requires an $8,500.00 City match. Tonight, the City Council is asked to authorize moving forward with the City's grant application, and to approve Resolution No. 19-007 allocating funds in the amount of $8,500.00 for the required City match.

II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

TAKE the following actions:
1. AUTHORIZE staff to move forward with the KaBoom! grant application for the purchase and installation of playground equipment and surface material at the north playground of Stevenson Park.
2. APPROVE an appropriation of $8,500.00 from the Unreserved General Fund Balance to cover the City's required match.
3. WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution No. 19-007, "A RESOLUTION OF THE CARSON CITY COUNCIL AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2018/19 ADOPTED BUDGET TO ALLOCATE FUNDS IN THE AMOUNT OF $8,500.00 FOR THE CITY'S MATCH FOR THE KABOOM! GRANT."
