CONSIDER ADDITIONAL CITY EVENT FUNDING (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY

On November 14th, the City Council provided direction for City event funding and directed staff to provide more information. This report includes the additional information requested, and a resolution to amend the FY16-17 budget based upon the City Council's November 14th discussion. However, the City Council may choose to take a different action.

II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

1. ADOPT Resolution No. 16-151, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CARSON CITY COUNCIL AMENDING THE FISCAL YEAR 2016-17 BUDGET IN THE GENERAL FUND AND SPECIAL EVENTS FUND (Exhibit A); OR
2. PROVIDE alternative direction to staff.

IV. BACKGROUND

On November 14, 2016, the City Council appropriated a General Fund contribution for City events scheduled January through June 2017; and directed staff to provide a current budget status for the Safety First Act Now (SFAN) program.
The FY16-17 General Fund budget includes an appropriation of $29,500 for SFAN within the Neighborhood Safety Program (01-50-930-138). The appropriation is comprised of:
* $10,000 for professional services related to crime surveys;
* $4,500 to supply community meetings; and
* $15,000 for promotional items such as t-shirts.


Also on November 14th, the City Council discussed a potential reduction of the SFAN budget, and a potential additional appropriation for Martin Luther King, Jr. and Black History Month City events. Event descriptions and estimated costs follow.
