CONSIDER AWARDING A PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT TO BARKSHIRE LASER LEVELING INC. TO LASER LEVEL THE BASEBALL DIAMOND INFIELDS AT DOMINGUEZ PARK AND DOLPHIN PARK.

I. SUMMARY

The existing baseball diamond infields at Dominguez Park and Dolphin Park are in poor playing condition due to excessive play, weather, and erosion. To restore city ball fields to a play-ready condition staff has selected Barkshire Laser Leveling Inc. to bring the necessary amount of clay dust and laser level the surface of the baseball diamonds. Staff recommends the City Council approve the Public Works agreement with Barkshire Laser Level Inc. to perform this task at Dominguez Park and Dolphin Park, for a not-to-exceed amount of $40,000 plus $4,000 contingency. The total amount requested is $44,000.



II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

TAKE the following actions:
1. AWARD and APPROVE the Public Works Agreement with Barkshire Laser Leveling Inc. for laser leveling of the baseball infields at Dominguez Park and Dolphin Park, for a not-to-exceed contract sum of $40,000 (Exhibit No. 1)

2. AUTHORIZE the expenditure of construction contingencies in the amount of $4,000 (10%) for any unforeseen construction work such as substructure conflicts, contaminated soil removal and disposal, material testing, and other work that may be necessary to complete the project.

3. AUTHORIZE the Mayor to execute the Agreement following approval as formed by the City Attorney.

TAKE any other action City Council deems appropriate and consistent with the requirements of applicable law.

IV. BACKGROUND

The City of Carson is responsible for the maintenance of 21 baseball diamonds throughout ten City parks.
