SUBJECT:
Title
CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A PUBLIC WORKS AGREEMENT WITH ND CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, INC. FOR CITYWIDE BUS STOP IMPROVEMENTS (CITY COUNCIL)

Body
I. SUMMARY

The City of Carson provides fixed-route bus service through Long Beach Transit and the Carson Circuit. As part of these services, the City owns and maintains bus stop fixtures such as benches, trash receptacles, and shelters. Due to constant exposure to outdoor elements, these units have visibly aged over time.
In recent years, Public Works and Transportation staff have replaced 26 shelters and benches with newer units. These shelters exhibit a custom perforated rear wall with the logo "CARSON" as part of their unique design. As part of staff's efforts to upgrade the City's remaining bus stops, an order for new units is expected to arrive on or around August 1, 2022.
To remove and install new units, staff recommends the City Council authorize a public works agreement with ND Construction Company, Inc. at a contract sum of $535,272. Should the City Council approve the recommendation, the upgrades are expected to be completed by February 1, 2023.
