SUBJECT:

Title

CONSIDER APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE AGREEMENT WITH ALLTECH INDUSTRIES  (C20-117)

Body

I.                     SUMMARY

Due to an increased need for more physical security at City Hall and the Juanita Millender McDonald Community Center, the City is amending the contract with Alltech Industries, Inc. to add two security officers to provide security guard services. Staff is, therefore, requesting City Council to approve Amendment No. 1 to the Alltech Industries, Inc. Agreement increasing the contract amount by $132,347.00 to add two security officers, which will increase the contract sum from $1,086,638.00 to $1,218,985.00.

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

1.                     APPROVE AMENDMENT NO. 1 to the Agreement between the CITY OF CARSON and ALLTECH INDUSTRIES, INC. dated October 12, 2020 increasing the contract amount to an amount not to exceed $1,218,985.00 for the three year term of the Agreement.

2.                     AUTHORIZE the Mayor to execute Amendment No. 1, following approval as to form by City Attorney.

Body

III.                     ALTERNATIVES

TAKE any other action the City Council deems appropriate that is consistent with the requirement of law.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

City Council awarded a three-year contract to the lowest responsive and responsive bidder, Alltech Industries, Inc., to provide building security services to the City of Carson for the period beginning October 12, 2020 through October 11, 2023, for a total cost not-to-exceed $1,086,638.00, with two additional one-year options to extend at the sole discretion of the City. Should the City exercise those options, the agreement has the potential extending through October 11, 2025.

The current contract provides 10 security officers plus a supervising officer at three city facilities - City Hall, Community Center and the Corporate Yard.  The Public Safety Manager is recommending two additional security officers to provide the necessary security coverage at City Hall and the Juanita Millender Mcdonald Community Center.

Alltech Industries has given a quote as follows for the two additional security officers:

Staff is now requesting City Council approval to amend the Alltech Industries, Inc. Agreement by increasing the contract amount by an amount not to exceed $132,347 for the remaining term of the contract.

V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

If City Council approves staff recommendation, there will be no fiscal impact as the adopted Public Safety account currently has enough funds to cover the increase.
