SCOREBOARD UPDATE

Body

I.                     SUMMARY

This item is on the agenda at the request of Commissioner Walter Gonzalez from the May 2022, Commission Meeting, regarding repairs to the scoreboards at the parks.

On Thursday, April 21, 2022, the City’s vendor, Yesco Signs, LLC, sent a technician to troubleshoot the scoreboards. Staff was able to obtain the technician notes to determine what items are needed to repair the scoreboard. In addition, the six (6) controllers needed for Foisia Park, Del Amo Park and Dolphin Park have been ordered and will be received by the end of this month. Recreation will continue to work with Public Works on following up with the vendor on the additional repairs needed for the remaining scoreboards. For the parks that have functioning scoreboards, Park Supervisors have been informed to setup them up, and have staff or volunteers from the home team to operate the scoreboard.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

There are a total of sixteen baseball and four gym scoreboards located at various City parks. In response to a request from Walter Gonzalez, the Recreation Division is providing an update on the operational status of the scoreboards at all parks and gyms.

The Recreation Center Supervisors were contacted to test and report back the status of the scoreboards and to submit any service requests into the iWorQ database. Currently, there are seven (7) baseball scoreboards that require maintenance. Public Works scheduled a vendor visit on Thursday, April 21, 2022, to service the scoreboards and provide an estimate for all necessary repairs. Additionally, controllers for Foisia Park, Del Amo Park and Dolphin Park have been ordered and will be received by the end of this month. Recreation staff will continue to collaborate with Public Works to ensure that all park scoreboards are fully operational.

V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

Current funds in the Recreation Division account were used to purchase six (6) scoreboard controllers needed at three (3) of the parks at a total cost of $7,034.25. Once staff receives quotes from Yesco Inc. for the installation of new parts to repair the remaining scoreboards, these items will be purchased right away.

VI.                     EXHIBITS
