CONSIDER INCREASING REWARD AMOUNT FROM $25,000 TO $50,000 EACH FOR 2016 MURDER OF MICHELE AND JORDAN LOVE IN THE CITY OF CARSON (CITY COUNCIL)

I.                     SUMMARY

On February 27, 2016, two members of the Love family were murdered in the City of Carson. At the March 1, 2016, City Council meeting, the City Council established a reward of $25,000 for each family member for information leading to the capture, arrest, and conviction of the person(s) involved in the murders.

This item provides the City Council the opportunity to increase the reward amount from $25,000 each to $50,000 each.

 

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

                     APPROVE increasing the City Council reward amount from $25,000 to $50,000.

TAKE another action the City Council deems appropriate and that is consistent with applicable laws.

 

IV.                     BACKGROUND

On February 27, 2016, two members of the Love family were murdered in the City of Carson.  The City Council established a reward of $25,000 each on March 1, 2016. This item, if approved, will increase the reward amount to $50,000 for each family member.

 V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

Funds are paid to a rewardee only if the information provided leads to capture, arrest, and conviction. This item, if approved, would raise the potential fiscal impact from $50,000 to $100,000 if the rewards are paid.
