I. SUMMARY

On March 1, 2022 under Item No. 21 of Council Agenda, City Council voted 5-0 to introduce Ordinance No. 22-2202 adopting the current City Council District map as the Redistricting Map consistent with State Law.

II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

1. CONDUCT a Second Reading by title only and with further reading waived, and ADOPT Ordinance No. 22-2202 "AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON ADOPTING THE CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES FOLLOWING THE 2020 FEDERAL DECENNIAL CENSUS PURSUANT TO SECTION 21620 ET SEQ. OF THE CALIFORNIA ELECTIONS CODE"

IV. BACKGROUND

On March 1, 2022 under Item No. 21 of Council Agenda, City Council voted 5-0 to introduce Ordinance No. 22-2202 adopting the current City Council District map as the Redistricting Map consistent with State Law.
The ordinance as agendized on March 1 was drafted with language anticipating a new district map, so some modifications to the title and content of the ordinance were made on the floor prior to the Council's introduction of the ordinance and incorporated into the Council's action introducing same in order to make it clear the City Council is re-adopting the current map originally adopted in 2020. The modifications are memorialized in the Ordinance presented for adoption (Exhibit No. 1) and include removing the original Section 4, which made amendments to the Municipal Code that would have been needed had the Council decided to adopt a different map, among other clarifying modifications.
