I. SUMMARY

When vacancies occur, they present staff with the ideal time to enhance job specs to reflect current needs based upon industry trends, community needs, technological advancements and business evolution. Staff is presenting this amended Associate Planner job spec to reflect current and advanced needs to properly manage the City's projects in the Community Development Department's Planning Division.


II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution No. 21-129, "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN, RESOLUTION NO. 77-111, BY ADOPTING AMENDED JOB CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION FOR ASSOCIATE PLANNER."

IV. BACKGROUND

This amended job spec is required to address the skill set specificity required for planning talent in the Community Development Department's Planning Division. The Planning Division is responsible for current and advanced planning for the physical, social, and economic development of the City and ensures compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for both public and private projects. Together with the Building & Safety Division, the Planning Division reviews private development projects to achieve high quality and long-term economic growth. Staff completed the Meet & Confer with CPSA/SEIU 721 on September 28, 2021 and both parties are in agreement on the proposed Associate Planner job spec.


V. FISCAL IMPACT

There is no impact to the General Fund.
