I. SUMMARY

When vacancies occur, they present staff with the ideal time to enhance job specs to reflect current needs based upon industry trends, community needs, technological advancements and business evolution. At this time, staff is presenting this amended Senior Civil Engineer job spec to reflect current needs for properly managing the city's capital improvement projects in the Public Works Department's Engineering Division.


II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution No. 21-121, "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN, RESOLUTION NO. 77-111, BY ADOPTING AMENDED JOB CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION FOR SENIOR CIVIL ENGINEER."

IV. BACKGROUND

This amended job spec is required to address the skill set specificity required for civil engineering talent in the Public Works Department's Engineering Division. The Engineering Division is responsible for planning, organizing, and reviewing private development, property acquisition, traffic and transportation engineering; approving plans, estimates and contract documents for major Public Works structures and projects such as the City's Five-Year Capital Improvement Program. Staff completed the Meet & Confer with CPSA/SEIU 721 on August 26, 2021 and both parties are in agreement on the proposed Senior Civil Engineering job spec.


V. FISCAL IMPACT

There is no impact to the General Fund.
