CONSIDERATION TO APPROVE THE AMENDED SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENT FOR FY 2021- 22 AND AUTHORIZE THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENT WITH THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY

The City of Carson's current contract with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) was approved on June 18, 2019 with a five year term. The City and LASD have a positive working relationship and the LASD provides outstanding service to the community. The City Council is asked to authorize the City Manager to execute the amended Service Level Agreement for FY 2021-22.


II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

1. AUTHORIZE the City Manager to execute the amended Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Service Level Agreement for FY 2021-22.

1. TAKE any other action the City Council deems appropriate that is consistent with the requirements of the law.


IV. BACKGROUND

The City of Carson has contracted with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to provide law enforcement services since the City's inception in 1968. In the 52 years since, the City has maintained a very positive working relationship with the LASD. Moreover, the Sheriff's department has provided excellent service during this time.
On June 18, 2019, the City Council approved a five-year contract renewal agreement with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department for the period of July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024. The billing rates of the Contract City Law Enforcement Services is adjusted by the County Auditor-Controller annually effective July 1 of each year to reflect the cost of such service in accordance with the policies and procedures for the determination of such rates as adopted by the County Board of Supervisors.
The billing rate for FY 2021-22 increased by 1.4% resulting in a total annual contract cost amount of $22,354,412.24. The Service Level Agreem...
