Title

CONSIDERATION OF ADOPTING RESOLUTION NO. 21-037  CONDEMNING ALL FORMS OF VIOLENCE, DISCRIMINATION, RACISM, HARASSMENT, AND XENOPHOBIA AGAINST PERSONS OF ASIAN DESCENT AND PERSONS OF ALL ETHNICITIES, RACES, NATIONAL ORIGINS, AND BACKGROUNDS  (CITY COUNCIL)

I.                     SUMMARY

This item and Resolution is being introduced at the request of Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes for City Council consideration.

On March 16, 2021, a total of eight people were tragically killed in Atlanta, Georgia. Seven of the victims were women and six of them were of Asian descent.

 

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

ADOPT Resolution No. 21-037, “A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, CONDEMNING ALL FORMS OF VIOLENCE, DISCRIMINATION, RACISM, HARASSMENT AND XENOPHOBIA AGAINST PERSONS OF ASIAN DESCENT AND PERSONS OF ALL ETHNICITIES, RACES, NATIONAL ORIGINS, AND BACKGROUNDS.”

III.                     ALTERNATIVES

TAKE another action the City Council deems appropriate.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

Demonstrations have occurred across the nation, including in Carson, calling for an end to the increased attacks and harassment against Asians that have surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. This Resolution would add the City Council’s voice to condemning such unacceptable and agregious behavior.

There is no fiscal impact associated with this item.
