I.                     SUMMARY

Management Partners, a local government consulting firm, is facilitating a City Council Mission, Vision, and Priorities Workshop on February 4, 2020.

The product anticipated from the Workshop will be an approved Mission and Vision for the City of Carson, along with a set of work plan Priorities. After the Workshop, the consultant will prepare a report that documents the City Council’s agreements, including identifying effective implementation steps. The agenda for the Workshop is included as Exhibit No. 1 and discussion materials are included as Exhibit No. 2.

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

DISCUSS                      and ADOPT a City Council Mission, Vision, and list of Priorities for the City of Carson through the facilitation of a consultant.

Body

III.                     ALTERNATIVES

TAKE another action the City Council deems appropriate.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

In November 2020, the City of Carson hired a consultant to gather and consolidate information from the City’s elected officials to facilitate a discussion of mission and vision statements, and an agreed upon list of the City’s top priorities. The City’s executive staff also provided its input.

Today’s workshop will focus on crafting and adopting a City Council mission and vision for the City of Carson, along with a set of work plan priorities.

V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

The fiscal impact of the work plan priorities established by the City Council during the workshop will depend on the details of the approved items. Staff will  present the approved items for future City Council review and approval as part of our budget process as appropriate.
