Title

CONSIDER THE CANCELLATION OF CITY OF  CARSON SPECIAL EVENTS SCHEDULED FOR THE MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST (CITY COUNCIL)

Body

I.                     SUMMARY

Due to the Covid-19 Emergency, the City Council has canceled all special events and programs through the end of June.  Given that the health emergency is ongoing with no definitive end date, to avoid beginning planning efforts and committing funds, staff is requesting direction to cancel events and programs scheduled in July and August 2020.

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

Authorize the cancellation of events and programs to the end of August 2020.

Body

III.                     ALTERNATIVES

TAKE another action the City Council deems appropriate.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

In recent weeks, local, state and federal agencies have declared emergencies in response to COVID-19.  As part of the City’s declaration, the City Council cancelled all special events and programs through June 30, 2020.   With this circumstance ongoing and fluid, the City Council is now asked to authorize the cancellation of events and programs scheduled in July and August, including  Relay for Life, Day of Unity, White Linen (unless this has been rescheduled beyond this period), and the Fabela Chavez Boxing Showcase.

V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

As these events are scheduled for next fiscal year, budgets for each event have not been approved.

VI.                     EXHIBITS

None.
