Body
I. SUMMARY

National Library Week celebrates the contributions of our nation's libraries and library workers. Libraries provide a safe space with free access to books, online resources for families, business centers that help support entrepreneurship and a variety of additional services intended to offer multi-faceted access and opportunity to all citizens.
Please note that Los Angeles Public Library facilities are closed until further notice due to the "Safer at Home Order" issued by the County of Los Angeles Public Health Officer. However, many digital services remain available 24/7 at lapl.org, including e-books and audiobooks, streaming TV, movie and music services and digital subscriptions to newspapers and magazines.

IV. BACKGROUND

Normally notable individuals, occasions, and events, such as National Library Week, would be presented a Proclamation at a City Council Meeting. Considering these unprecedented times and the importance of preserving social awareness while practicing social distancing, the City shall resolve to commemorate these occasions via Resolution as a result of COVID-19.
National Library Week was first sponsored in 1958 by the American Library Association (ALA) and is observed in libraries across the country each April. Many separate library agencies - school, public, academic and special - participate.
This year's National Library Week theme is "Find Your Place at the Library," and Olympic medalists Maia and Alex Shibutani will serve as 2020's Honorary Chairs.
