CONSIDER WELCOMING THE XFL WILDCATS TO CARSON (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY
This item has been placed on the agenda at the request of Mayor Robles to welcome the addition of the XFL Wildcats to Carson. The XFL is a brand new, fan-first league that’s reimagining the game of football and offering fans an opportunity to experience more action, access, and fun. Starting February 8, 2020, eight teams will play a 10-week regular season and a two-week postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game on April 26. The season lasts just 79 days. Every XFL game will air live on national television including ABC, ESPN, and FOX Sports. During the regular season, four games are scheduled each week, typically with two back-to-back games on Saturdays and Sundays. The XFL schedule also features two primetime Thursday night games in the final weeks of the regular season.
II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution No. 20-026, “A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, WELCOMING THE WILDCATS TO CARSON, THANKING THEM FOR THEIR ENGAGEMENT WITH THE CARSON COMMUNITY, AND DESIGNATING THEM AS CARSON’S OFFICIAL TEAM”

IV. BACKGROUND
The XFL is a new professional football league with eight teams. XFL Football League was established by Vince McMahon and Heather Karatz is the president. Carson is home to the Los Angeles Wildcats. The Wildcats will play their home games in the Dignity Health Sports Park. The season will start on February 8th and the first of five home games will be on February 16th.
