CONSIDER ESTABLISHING A REWARD FUND OF $20,000 FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST AND CONVICTION OF THE PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MURDERS OF ERIN LAVENDAR AND DALELAJA HEARN  (CITY COUNCIL)

I.                     SUMMARY

 

Immediately after the murders of Erin Lavendar and Dalelaja Hearn, to assist with the investigation, the City Manager authorized the establishment of a reward fund of $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for these murders.

The City Council was advised by the City Manager of her action and is now being asked to ratify the establishment of the reward fund of $20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murders.

 

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

                     APPROVE and RATIFY the authorization of a $20,000 reward for the information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murders of Erin Lavendar and Dalelaja Hearn.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

 

On December 15, 2019, just before 9 p.m. Sunday evening, two females - 19 year-old Erin Lavendar and 17-year-old Dalelaja Hearn - were fatally shot outside of a residence.  The two were visiting an ongoing vigil for a 26-year-old man, who had died the Wednesday prior.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.  Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.

 

V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

 

The Finance Department tracks reward funds as directed by the City Council.  Funds will be appropriated and distributed in the event that the eligible person(s) claim the reward and the City Council directs the disbursement of funds.
