CONSIDER AND DISCUSS A PROCESS FOR GROUNDBREAKING AND RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONIES  (CITY COUNCIL)

I.                     SUMMARY

During the July 16, 2019 regular City Council meeting Mayor Pro Tem Hicks and Councilmembers Davis-Holmes and Dear called for a special City Council meeting to be held on July 23, 2019 to discuss this matter. Also on July 16, 2019, Mayor Robles requested this item be listed on tonight’s agenda.

On July 23, 2019, the City Council directed staff to review City procedures for ground breaking and ribbon cutting events in which the City is a participant and return to the City Council with a recommended policy if warranted.

Recommendation

                     CONSIDER and PROVIDE direction.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

Groundbreaking and Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies are important to the City of Carson. They provide a way to kick-off the start of construction or the grand opening of a business entity that is locating in Carson.  These ceremonies are a way for residents and the business community to celebrate an important milestone with that entity and to welcome it to the community.
