CONSIDER A FEE WAIVER REQUEST FOR TABLES AND CHAIRS BY THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF FILIPINO AMERICAN ASSOCIATIONS FOR ITS 2019 NATIONAL EMPOWERMENT CONFERENCE (CITY COUNCIL)

This item is on the agenda at the request of Councilmember Dear.
The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) will be holding its 2019 National Empowerment Conference at the Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald Community Center (Community Center) from August 15-18, 2019. The organization is requesting a fee waiver for the use of tables and chairs to be used at its vendor fair in the atrium and all breakout rooms. As staff has not received a count of how many of each item NaFFAA will need, the total cost of the fee waiver has not yet been determined. Tonight, the City Council is asked to consider NaFFAA's request and provide direction to staff.

IV. BACKGROUND
Established in 1997, NaFFAA promotes the welfare and well-being of the approximately four million Filipinos and Filipino Americans throughout the United States. As a non-partisan and non-profit organization, NaFFAA is the largest national affiliation of Filipino American institutions, umbrella organizations, and individuals. Its fifteen-member regions cover the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands.
NaFFAA will be hosting its 2019 National Empowerment Conference at the Community Center from August 15-18, 2019. For the past few months, the organization has been working with staff for its space and equipment needs (Exhibit No. 1).
