CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION NO. 19-083, AMENDING THE FY 2018-2019 BUDGET BY ELIMINATING THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN JOB CLASSIFICATION AND ADDING A SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR CLASSIFICATION WITHIN THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY
When vacancies occur, they present Staff with the ideal time to enhance, eliminate or add job specs to reflect current needs based upon industry trends, technological advancements and business evolution. At this time, staff is presenting this newly created Systems Administrator job spec to properly reflect current City needs.
II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution No. 19-109, "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN, RESOLUTION NO. 77-111, BY ELIMINATING THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN JOB CLASSIFICATION AND ADDING THE SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR CLASSIFICATION IN THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT."

IV. BACKGROUND
The required Meet & Confer with Carson Professional and Supervisors Association (CPSA) was conducted on April 11, 2019 and all parties are in agreement on the updated job spec. As a result of a staff resignation, this position is now vacant. To meet the needs of the department, Staff is requesting to eliminate this classification and replace the headcount with a new classification of Systems Administrator, Salary Range 160, ($7,180 - $9,162). A Systems Administrator is needed to maintain, manage, backup, and monitor City of Carson critical business systems to ensure steady, secure operations.
