CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION NO. 19-105, AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN, RESOLUTION NO. 77-111, BY ADOPTING NEW OR REVISED JOB CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATIONS FOR ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (CITY COUNCIL)

I.                     SUMMARY

When vacancies occur, they present Staff with the ideal time to enhance job specs to reflect current needs based upon industry trends, technological advancements and business evolution.  At this time, staff is presenting this updated Engineering Technician job spec to properly reflect current City needs.

 

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution No. 19-105, “A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA AMENDING THE CLASSIFICATION PLAN, RESOLUTION NO. 77-111. BY ADOPTING THE REVISED JOB CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION FOR ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN.”

TAKE any other action the City Council deems appropriate.

 

IV.                     BACKGROUND

A Meet & Confer with American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME 809) was requested on April 23, 2019 and on May 9, 2019.  As of this report, AFSCME 809 has stated that they would like to Meet & Confer to discuss this job spec.  They have not confirmed if they agree with the job spec or have proposed edits.  Staff has confirmed that no prior version of the job spec exists.  The position is vacant as a result of a staff retirement in December 2018.  Public Works would like to back-fill the role as soon as possible to meet the needs of the department and City. 

 

V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund.
