I.                     SUMMARY

The City Council is asked to consider establishing a reward fund for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Jeffrey Appel found in the parking lot of a Carson office building.

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

APPROVE the authorization of a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of Jeffrey Appel.

TAKE another action the City Council deems appropriate.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

On April 16, 2019, at approximately 6:30am, the body of Jeffrey Appel was found in the parking lot of an office building located on the 400 block of East Carson Plaza Drive. The victim was in the front seat of a white sedan. The victim resides Las Vegas, had been shot and stabbed several times. The Los Angeles Sheriff Department believes there are witnesses to this crime; however.  Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. V.                     FISCAL IMPACT

The finance department tracks reward funds as directed by the City Council. Funds will be appropriated and distributed in the event that the eligible person(s) claim the reward and the City Council directs the disbursement of funds.
