SELECTION OF BOARD MEMBERS FOR THE CARSON COMMUNITY FOUNDATION (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY
The Carson Community Foundation is a non-profit public benefit corporation, established by the City and now operating as an independent organization. The Foundation receives donations and makes grants to support programs and events that benefit the residents of Carson. The Foundation has a nine-member board, with six private-sector board members, and three board members from the City. Mayor Albert Robles is the chair of the board. The other two board members are Councilwoman Lula Davis-Holmes, and Jovito Morales, who is a commissioner on the City's Parks and Recreation Commission. The terms for which Councilwoman Davis-Holmes and Mr. Morales were appointed to the board expired on December 31, 2018, and the Foundation now requests that the Mayor and City Council take action to select board members for the new term, as required by the Foundation's bylaws.
II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
Appoint, by minute order, board members for the Carson Community Foundation to fill the seats currently held by Councilwoman Davis-Holmes and Commissioner Morales.

III. ALTERNATIVES
Do not select new board members, in which case Councilwoman Davis-Holmes and Mr. Morales will be removed from the board of the Foundation, effective March 1, 2019.
IV. BACKGROUND
Councilwoman Davis-Holmes and Mr. Morales are founding members of the Foundation's board and have served on the board since its inception. Board members have staggered four-year terms, and Councilwoman Davis-Holmes and Mr. Morales each had terms ending on December 31, 2018. Although their terms have ended, the Foundation's bylaws allow them to retain their board positions until the end of February 2019.
