I. SUMMARY
A Senior Groundsworker is needed for additional support on weekends to ensure proper coverage of all parks and to complete the required grounds maintenance and landscape duties over the weekend.
II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
WAIVE further reading and APPROVE Resolution No. 19-005, “A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE FY 2018-2019 BUDGET, BY UPGRADING ONE ASSISTANT GROUNDSWORKER POSITION TO SENIOR GROUNDSWORKER.”

IV. BACKGROUND
Due to the retirement of a long-term Groundsworker II (job series) a vacancy has opened and for an Assistant Groundsworker.
At this time, the department no longer requires an entry-level member on the grounds crew. The team is in need of a more experienced lead, who can direct the work of other crew members on the highly-visible weekend team.
Staff is requesting the approval of the position upgrade from an Assistant Groundsworker to a Senior Groundsworker. An active eligibility list is available, interviews have been conducted, which will allow a prompt hire to occur.
V. FISCAL IMPACT
The fiscal impact for the remainder of the FY 2018-2019 budget is $5,286. This increase will be assumed by salary savings in the Public Works Department’s budget.
