CITY COUNCIL REORGANIZATION FOR SELECTION OF THE MAYOR PRO TEM (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY
Councilmember Davis-Holmes has requested that the City Council consider reorganization for the selection of the Mayor Pro Tem. Carson Municipal Code Section 2403 requires that the City Council reorganize offices at the second meeting in January.
II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
The Council may consider waiving Carson Municipal Code Section 2403 to consider an early City Council reorganization for the selection of Mayor Pro Tem.

III. ALTERNATIVES
Council could decide to adhere to the Carson Municipal Code Section 2403 and schedule the reorganization for the January 22, 2018 City Council meeting.
IV. BACKGROUND
Section 2403 of the Carson Municipal Code states that the “During the second City Council Meeting of January of each year the City Council shall select one of its members to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore.”
Council Member Davis-Holmes requested consideration of this item under Section 2404 of the Carson Municipal Code, which governs Councilmember’s individual requests for the consideration of agenda items.
