I. SUMMARY

The City Council directed that staff complete an RFP for sports officials. During the RFP process the City will continue to need the services of non-represented part time sports officials. In order to officiate games it has been determined that the compensation should be revised. The City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 18-160 that will authorize this revision.

WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution 18-160, "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING REVISED COMPENSATION FOR THE POSITION OF SPORTS OFFICIAL."

IV. BACKGROUND

The City's Youth Sports program offers programming that includes baseball, softball, T-Ball, flag football, soccer, and basketball for residents of Carson. Historically these have been non-represented part-time employees. During the City Council's budget workshops the Council examined the need to conduct an RFP for sports officials, due primarily to scheduling issues and competing with other surrounding communities for officials. Carson is one of the few remaining cities in Los Angeles County that does not contract out for sports officials.
The RFP is out and awaiting bids. During this period of time there is a continued need for sports officials. Council directed staff to complete a survey of surrounding officials compensation and it has been determined that an increase is necessary in order to continue to provide officials.
