CONSIDER APPROVING RESOLUTION NO. 18-003, AUTHORIZING THE CITY OF CARSON'S APPLICATION FOR THE STATE'S LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND GRANT (CITY COUNCIL)

Body
I. SUMMARY

The City Council is asked to approve Resolution No. 18-003 (Exhibit No. 1), authorizing the City's application for the State's Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant. Staff intends to request approximately $627,000.00 to renovate Scott Park Pool, with the matching funds from the recently adopted Los Angeles County Measure A. The total cost to renovate the pool is estimated at $1.2 million.


II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

1. WAIVE further reading and ADOPT Resolution No. 18-003, "A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CARSON, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING ITS APPLICATION FOR THE LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION FUND GRANT FOR THE SCOTT PARK POOL RENOVATION PROJECT."

2. DIRECT staff to transmit the executed resolution to the State of California, Natural Resources Agency, Department of Parks and Recreation, Office of Grants and Local Services.

IV. BACKGROUND

The "Land and Conservation Fund" was established in 1964 to assist States in the planning, acquisition and development of recreation lands. The fund is administered nationally by the National Park Service, while the program is managed statewide by the Natural Resources Agency, Department of Parks and Recreation, Office of Grants and Local Services.
The City Council's approval of Resolution No. 18-003 is the first step in the City's application for the State's Land and Water Conservation Fund Grant. Staff intends to request funds in the amount of approximately $627,000.00 to assist in the renovation of the Scott Park Pool.
