50TH ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE CITY COUNCIL SUB-COMMITTEE UPDATE (CITY COUNCIL)

I.                     SUMMARY

During the January 24, 2017, special City Council meeting the Mayor appointed members of the City Council to serve on one or more of the sub-committees which are listed on page two of this staff report.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

At the first meeting of the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee, several events were proposed to commemorate the City’s 50th anniversary.  These activities include:

                     Participating in the 2018 Rose Parade by providing a float

                     50th Anniversary Gala Ball

                     Miss Carson Scholarship Pageant

                     City-wide special events

                     “Taste of Carson” intended as a fundraiser for other programs

                     50th Anniversary Invitational Golf Tournament as a second fundraising event

 

 

 

Several sub-committees were established that would be responsible for planning, promoting and implementing the proposed activities. Below is a list of the sub-committees and the appointments made by the Mayor on January 24, 2017:

Mayor Robles and Councilmember Santarina

50th Anniversary Gala Ball Committee

Mayor Pro Tem Davis-Holmes and Councilmember Hicks

Publicity Committee

Councilmembers Hilton and Santarina

Mayor Robles and Mayor Pro Tem Davis-Holmes

Fundraising Committee

Since this first meeting, progress has been made in further developing these initial suggestions. At the same time, there have been some challenges that have limited the group’s ability to move fully move forward.  Actions have been taken to expedite and streamline their planning efforts in hopes of ensuring that the activities meet City’s expectations of its events.
