SUBJECT:
Title
CONSIDER AN UPDATE ON THE CITY OF CARSON APPLICATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2018 TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE (CITY COUNCIL)
Body
I. SUMMARY
In September, 2016, the City submitted its application to enter the Tournament of Roses Parade. Applications are reviewed by the Tournament of Roses Executive Committee. The Committee makes determinations on all applications for the 2018 Parade by March 2017. Carson is very optimistic that our application will be accepted and therefore publicity of our application status needs to begin early. The average float costs a minimum of $275,000.00.
Our purpose for placing this matter on the agenda is to raise awareness and inform the business community that we are soliciting donations for the construction of our float. With the holidays and the New Year fast approaching we want to take an opportunity to inform the community about the application status.
There will be no City funds used for any part of Carson's entry on the Tournament of Roses Parade. All private donations will be collected using the Carson Community Foundation, a public benefit corporation that was formed for the purpose of managing funds received by the city through donations and corporate support. The Foundation Board directs such funds for the benefit of the Carson community.

The City actively participated in the Parade dating back to the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. In fact, Carson proudly received awards in 1977, 198...
