I. SUMMARY
This item asks City Council to consider approval of lighting the Carson City Hall fountain in blue light on the night of May 8, 2021, in recognition of World Ovarian Cancer Day. Staff would post information about the lighting on the City’s website and social media.

Recommendation
APPROVE lighting the Carson City Hall fountain in blue light on the night of May 8, 2021, in recognition of World Ovarian Cancer Day.

IV. BACKGROUND
The City of Carson has previously lit the City Hall fountain in a particular color to recognize a particular cause, day or occasion, including recognizing the death of Kobe Bryant with purple lights in the fountain.
May 8th is World Ovarian Cancer Day and the official color of recognition is teal/blue. Ovarian cancer is a horrible disease nicknamed the "silent killer". It is responsible for robbing the world of mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives. One of the reasons it can be so deadly is from being caught late due to lack of awareness.
By lighting the City Hall fountain in blue, the City of Carson would be participating in a wider recognition and acknowledgement of ovarian cancer awareness.
