CONSIDER AN UPDATE FROM THE PARKS, RECREATION, AND CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION (CITY COUNCIL)

I.                     SUMMARY

In March 2021 the City Council approved the reconvening of the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Commission to assist and advise staff on programming and facility needs during the reopening of City parks.  As a result, the Commission has been busy meeting and reviewing various projects and proposals that have been delivered by the department during the COVID-19 pandemic. The attached provides a summary of Commission activities and a plan for future meetings through the end of fiscal year 2021-22.

II.                     RECOMMENDATION

Recommendation

                     RECEIVE and FILE staff’s update from the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Commission.

TAKE another action the City Council deems appropriate.

IV.                     BACKGROUND

At its September 21, 2021 meeting, City Council directed staff to return with a report on activities and meeting status of the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Commission. To date, the Commission has held six meetings since being reinstated following pandemic closures.

In March 2021 the City Council approved the reconvening of the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Commission to assist and advise staff on programming and facility needs during the reopening of City parks.  As a result, the Commission has been meeting and reviewing various projects and proposals that have been delivered by the department during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The attached provides a summary of Commission activities and a plan for future meetings through the end of fiscal year 2021-22. The work plan also provides a road map for future meetings and layouts and anticipated menu of decisions and recommendations on high priority items for the Commission. It should be noted that additional items will likely be added to meeting agendas based on need and or urgency as they arise.
