CONSIDER APPROVAL OF A FISCAL YEAR 2023-2024 PURCHASE ORDER FOR THE ANNUAL COST OF THE CITY OF CARSON MEMBERSHIP WITH THE SOUTH BAY CITIES COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY
The City of Carson is a member of the South Bay Cities Council of Governments (the “SBCCOG”) and part of this membership is an annual fee paid to the SBCCOG each fiscal year.
This item transmits a request for City Council to approve a Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Purchase Order to pay for the upcoming annual membership invoice in the amount of $33,964.
The SBCCOG is a joint powers authority government agency of 16 cities and Los Angeles County that share the goal of maximizing the quality of life and productivity of the South Bay subregion of Los Angeles.
II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation
APPROVE a Fiscal Year 2023-2024 Purchase Order to the SBCCOG in the amount of $33,964.00.

TAKE another action the City Council deems appropriate and that is consistent with applicable laws.
IV. BACKGROUND
As stated on the SBCCOG website, the organization is overseen by a board of directors and conducts business through committees and working groups made up of city and county elected officials, city and county staff, government partners and members of the community. These groups focus on conservation of energy and water, along with waste reduction and shared mobility, through the South Bay Environmental Services Center (SBESC); senior and homeless services through Social Welfare, Equity and Access initiatives; Transportation, particularly administration of Measure R and Measure M funding; land use and climate action planning through its Sustainable South Bay initiatives; broadband access with the South Bay Fiber Network (SBFN), geographic information systems (GIS) mapping through its Technology initiatives and Advocacy on legislative positions that address these issues.
The SBCCOG members are Carson, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lomita, Manhattan Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance, and the Harbor City/San Pedro/Wilmington communities of the City of Los Angeles, along with the unincorporated areas of the County of Los Angeles.
V. FISCAL IMPACT
The $33,964 being requested by this staff report is available in the Fiscal Year 2023-2024 proposed City Council budget for City memberships (101-10-100-100-6006).
