IV. BACKGROUND
The City Council approved the purchase of updated office furniture for selected areas of the first floor of City Hall on October 4, 2022 (2022-502). Examples include new office desks, shelves, chairs, tables, and cubicles in the offices and wings. The carpet was also replaced in those areas and an RFP was released with contract awarded for this work. The electrical lines installed in those selected wings will need to be removed and reinstalled with new lines when the new cubicles are setup. To ensure the proper voltage is used, some of the panels will need to be updated. New electrical lines will also be installed in areas where new equipment is being placed.
The proposed project is a public works project under the State bidding laws known as the Uniform Public Construction Cost Accounting Act (“UPCCAA”) adopted by the City as set forth in Section 2612 of its Municipal Code. Under UPCCAA, public projects of $60,000 or less have no bidding requirement attached to it. The City Council is now being asked to award a contract to Varkel Construction, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $59,004.
V. FISCAL IMPACT
Funds for the cost of this project are included in the Public Works budget for FY 2023/2024 in the amount of $59,004.
