CONSIDER APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT NO. 1 TO THE AGREEMENT (21-080) WITH VERNE'S PLUMBING, INC., FOR THE TESTING, REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT OF CITY-OWNED BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICES (CITY COUNCIL)

I. SUMMARY

The City Council awarded a three-year contract to Verne's Plumbing, Inc. on June 1, 2021. The contract is for testing and repair services for backflow prevention devices owned by the City. The contract can be extended for an additional two one-year periods. The award was made in response to RFP 21-013.
Staff is submitting Amendment 1 (Exhibit No. 1) to this contract, requesting an additional $27,526.31 to replace several damaged backflow prevention devices. Additionally, Staff is seeking permission to exercise the option to extend the terms of this agreement for a one-year period at a pre-established not to exceed cost of $16,667.00, bringing the total increased amount needed to $44,193.31. The total adjusted contract sum will be $94,193.31.

II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation

1. APPROVE Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement for Contract Services by and between the City of Carson and Verne's Plumbing, Inc. to increase the contract sum by $44,193.31 such that the total cost of the Contract Agreement does not exceed $94,193.31, and extend the term of the agreement by one year to May 30, 2025,
2. AUTHORIZE the Mayor to execute the amendment after approval as to form by the City Attorney.

1. DO NOT APPROVE Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement for Contract Services.
2. DO NOT APPROVE the extension of the service contract.
3. TAKE another ACTION the City Council deems appropriate, consistent with the requirements of the law.
