CONSIDERATION OF APPOINTMENTS TO THE SOUTH BAY WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD (SBWIB) SEATS REPRESENTED BY CITY OF CARSON BUSINESS SECTOR MEMBERS.

I. SUMMARY

The City of Carson forms part of the South Bay Workforce Investment Board (SBWIB). Based upon the composition of the SBWIB, the City of Carson is entitled to five (5) private sector business seats, two of which recently have termed out. Currently there are two available seats for appointment for the term of July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2027, of which the SBWIB is seeking appointments.


II. RECOMMENDATION
Recommendation


1. REAPPOINT Tamala Lewis, Senior Director of Community Relations & Foundation Vice President for Dignity Health Sports Park to the South Bay Workfoce Investment Board for the term expiring June 30, 2027

2. APPOINT Mark Panger, Plant Manager for Ecoservices to the South Bay Workforce Investment Board for the term expiring June 30, 2027

IV. BACKGROUND

On July 1, 2007, the City of Carson became part of the South Bay Workforce Investment Board. The purpose of the SBWIB is to ensure the involvement of business private sector individuals in workforce development activities. The SBWIB also oversees a local cooperative relationship with the Participating Cities that will most effectively satisfy the labor demand needs of the business community and enhance the economic well-being of individuals in need of workforce development services. The governing body is composed of business, labor and community members representing each city. Members are expected to attend quarterly board meetings in addition to one quarterly committee meeting in which they are assigned.
