IV. BACKGROUND

Muralist Pedro Murillo has lived in the City of Carson for over 30 years. From his experience attending the Cesar Chavez event the two times it was at Dominguez Park, he has inquired if the City would be interested in his painting a mural of Cesar Chavez on the exterior west wall of the Snack Bar. This location is a high visibility area for park patrons that traverse along the walking path, as well as for the kindergarten students and parents from Dominguez Elementary School that enter from the school gate onto Dominguez Park.
Materials and labor will be donated by Mr. Murillo, and he believes it will take him one workday to complete the mural. There is some concern of possible graffiti and vandalism occurring to the mural due to its location; however, the Mr. Murillo is committed to maintaining the mural by touching up and removing any vandalism that occurs.
Staff is requesting that the Commission discuss and provide Mr. Murillo's proposal, and provide a recommendation that can be taken to City Council for its consideration.
